South Promenade Redevelopment

Posted on

As reported in the “Hornsea Community News” newspaper, Issue 29, April 2017, we are happy to say that funding has been secured for the redevelopment of the South Promenade in Hornsea, the stretch of promenade next to Longbeach!

This announcement secures the fishing Industry in Hornsea and improves the facilities available for leisure by providing additional berths for leisure craft, a safer environment for users and visitors, a café, a small retail space and an education room. Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said “Today’s announcement by the DCLG is excellent news for the town of Hornsea and demonstrates this council’s commitment to regenerating our coastal communities for the benefit of both residents and visitors. The council has an excellent track record of attracting funding, based on its reputation for delivering projects on time and on budget, and it is pleasing that this scheme was selected by the DCLG for funding and can now be brought forward. When complete, this scheme will strengthen Hornsea’s reputation as a must-visit tourist destination and also secure the long-term future of the town’s fishing industry.”

A programme of works for the scheme, which is also seeking funding from the EMFF to deliver the fisheries element, is now being finalised.” The Hornsea Community News article also stated “Meanwhile we await the results of the £10,000 grant to finalise a plan for the rest of the seafront. It seems that our promenade is heading for a major makeover!”
